Biophysics in Ukraine: A Karazin University Initiative
As part of Biophysics Week 2025, V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University on March 24 hosted
the event “Biophysics Week in Ukraine: Experience Across the Borders”, bringing together
researchers, students, and professionals to highlight the latest advancements in biophysics. This
event served as a platform for sharing experiences, expertise and forecasts between Ukrainian
biophysicists working at home and abroad, discussing cutting-edge research, fostering
collaboration, and promoting the role of biophysics in addressing global scientific and
educational challenges.
The program featured presentations from few generations of graduates of the department of
biophysics of Kharkiv University , covering topics such as protein (mis)folding, nanostructured
platforms for targeted drug delivery, membrane biophysics, neuroscience and biomedical
applications of human-robot interfaces. Participants engaged in interactive discussions, sharing
insights into current research projects and potential international collaborations. Online
meeting become a platform for graduates to share their professional journeys, research
insights, and challenges within biophysics. Head of Ukrainian Biophysical Society summarized
gathered ideas on re-launching a Ukrainian Biophysical Society making it visible, active, and
impactful, fostering connections both nationally and globally.
One of the highlights was a panel discussion on the future of biophysics in Ukraine,
emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary approaches, global networking and mobility
especially for young researchers. The event successfully strengthened ties within the
biophysical community and encouraged students to join the journey of biophysics.
We are grateful to the Biophysical Society for supporting this initiative and look forward to
further engagements that promote biophysics worldwide.
